Nuu Rain Inc. In February 2005 my wife Bonita and I traveled to Chiang Mai, Northern Thailand on a buying trip for our import business, and to also visit Roy and Avis Rideout. Ten years earlier, we had helped raise funds in Canada which the Rideout’s used to open the Agape Baby Home. On one of our visits to the Agape Home we met a 32 year old woman named Nuu who was almost completely blind from a disease linked to HIV/AIDS. Nuu had been taken in by the Agape Home because she had no job, food or home. She simply had no place to go. The Agape Home, a home for babies and children living with HIV/AIDS, did not have the mandate to take care of Nuu, but could not abandon her. At that time Avis asked us “What do we do with her (Nuu) and countless others like her”? You see, many women are cast out from their villages, families and homes when they contract this deadly virus. They are the castoffs of society,………..adult orphans. With the knowledge that something had to be done, we stepped forward, and in the late spring of 2005 Nuu Rain Inc. came into being. In August 2005 a rather large 3 bedroom house was rented, and 4 women moved into Baan Nuu Rain. Since that time a number of women have moved on, but there are always more standing off in the shadows waiting to be taken in. Although many of these women will remain with us, it has always been our goal to be a transition home where we can help these women in their efforts to re-establish their lives. We have been teaching the ladies income generating skills to help them accomplish this. Nuu Rain is a grace based nonprofit society with a goal to provide food, clothing, medical, income generating skills to as many of these women in Thailand as possible. Our greatest joy is when one of these ladies come to the understanding that she is loved and that she is of great worth. Ray & Bonita Emery |
